By TGV
The Cité du Chocolat is easily accessible via the nearby Valence TGV station:

  • 45 minutes by train from Valence Ville station
  • 20 minutes by car from Valence TGV station to Tain-l’Hermitage
     

By TER
The Tain-l’Hermitage-Tournon train station, located just a 10-minute walk from the Cité du Chocolat, is served by direct trains from Valence, Lyon, and Avignon.
Take advantage of a special "Low-Carbon" fare: €9.50 upon presentation of proof of travel by train, bus, or bicycle.

Follow the ViaRhôna cycling route along the banks of the Rhône; it passes just a minute away from the Cité du Chocolat Valrhona. Access is easy, pleasant, and perfectly suited to cyclists, whether you are out for a leisurely ride, a touring trip, or a more athletic outing.

For your convenience, a secure bike storage area is available in the Valrhona School car park, right next to the Cité’s gardens. You will also find lockers equipped with charging outlets - ideal for charging your e-bike batteries while you visit.

Located along the legendary Nationale 7, right next to exit 13 of the A7 motorway, the Cité du Chocolat Valrhona is an ideal stopover for holiday travelers or those visiting the Rhône Valley. Access is quick and easy, making it convenient for both passing visitors and locals. 

Travel times from nearby major cities: 

From Valence: 20 minutes via the N7 or A7 (exit 13 – Tain l’Hermitage) 

From Lyon: approximately 1 hour via the A7 

From Grenoble: approximately 1 hour via the A49, taking the Alixan / Châteauneuf‑sur‑Isère exit 

Upon arrival, you can park easily in the free car park located right next to the Cité du Chocolat.

The Cité du Chocolat is promoting environmentally friendly modes of transport

Preferential low-carbon tariff

Starting in January 2026, the Cité du Chocolat is promoting environmentally friendly modes of transport by offering a reduced fare to all visitors arriving by train, bus, or bicycle. 

Simply present :

- an SNCF train ticket to Tain-Tournon station, 

- a ticket from the Cars Région Drôme, Cars Région Ardèche, or Arche Agglo networks,

- or a photo of your arrival by bicycle in front of the site, to benefit from this advantageous fare. 

Choosing the train or bicycle not only reduces your carbon footprint but also allows you to enjoy a more relaxed and pleasant journey, far from the constraints of driving. Together, let's make indulgence a sustainable pleasure !

At the Valrhona shop:
This initiative, which promotes eco-friendly modes of transport, is also available to customers. To thank those who arrive by bus, train, or bicycle, a free adult admission ticket to the Cité du Chocolat is offered with every purchase. This gift is valid for one year, ensuring great flexibility in how it is used. Redeeming the offer is simple: customers need only present proof of travel—such as a bus or train ticket—or a photo taken with their bicycle in front of the Boutique or the Cité. This scheme encourages sustainable mobility while offering visitors a delightful culinary and cultural experience.

Sundays and Public Holidays: 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 6 pm

Tour Opening Hours 

Monday: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 6:30 pm 
Tuesday to Saturday: 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 6:30 pm (please note: last entry for the tour is at 5 pm)

Please note: last entry for the tour is at 5:00 pm.

Sundays and public holidays: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 6:30 pm 5:30 PM (please note: last entry for the tour is at 4 pm)

The museum reception is closed between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm, but the tour remains accessible during this time if you arrive before 12:00 pm (the tour area itself remains open).

Booking is highly recommended; we suggest visiting on weekday mornings for a quieter experience.

All our tickets include access to the Cité du Chocolat visitor area and the free activities offered throughout the visit (excluding workshops and pastry classes). The ticket entitles you to a 10% discount in the shop.

Access to the Cité du Chocolat Valrhona
Located in Tain-l’Hermitage, in the heart of the Rhône Valley, the  Cité du Chocolat Valrhona is easily accessible, whether you arrive by car, train, or coach. Several free municipal car parks are nearby, don't hesitate to plan your visit in advance to allow time to park in the city centre.

Information to know before your visit

  • Animals : Animals, even small ones, are not allowed on the premises of the Cité du Chocolat Valrhona (including the shop and gardens), with the exception of assistance dogs. 
  • Smoking areas : The areas of the Cité du Chocolat Valrhona are non-smoking. This rule also applies to electronic cigarettes.  
  • A welcome for everyone : Because chocolate is meant to be shared, the Cité du Chocolat is accessible to people with reduced mobility and has specific facilities for visitors with disabilities. Our teams are available to offer you a personalized welcome. 
  • Parking : We do not have a dedicated parking lot for the Cité du Chocolat. Its location in the city center sometimes makes parking difficult, so please allow extra time for parking. Several free parking lots are located near the Cité du Chocolat Valrhona (General de Gaulle Parking / Louis Mortreux Square Parking / Clos Saint Charles Parking; Entrance to the Cité approximately 492 feet away).

To ensure a pleasant and comfortable experience for all our visitors, the Cité du Chocolat offers a range of services throughout your tour.

For families, baby-changing facilities are available on-site, as well as high chairs at Comptoir Porcelana, our dining area, to ensure the youngest visitors are well accommodated.

Committed to a more responsible approach, the Cité du Chocolat also encourages visitors to bring their own reusable water bottles, which can be refilled for free on-site to help reduce the use of disposable containers.

To ensure comfort and hygiene for everyone, disposable hairnets are available at the reception desk for use with the various audio devices found along the tour route.

You can also take advantage of free lockers to store your personal belongings and enjoy the visit unencumbered, as well as free Wi-Fi access while on-site.

Finally, weather permitting, enjoy our picnic area in the gardens for a delicious break in a pleasant, shaded setting.
